Ten Ways to Save Energy in Life

Recently I participated in a marketing research study being conducted by our local electric company. One of the things they wanted to find out was the appeal of their energy audit program to consumers. In the course of the marketing research study I became aware of numerous ways to save energy in my home. And today my wife and I met a representative from the electric company in our home for the purpose of an energy audit. The purpose of this is so we can not only find ways to save on our electric bill, but also participate in the worldwide effort to save the earth from global warming. This is all very useful.

This got me to thinking. If energy audits for homes are so useful, what about energy audits for our lives? Are there ways that people can prevent energy leaks in their personal lives? If everybody in the world had more personal energy, then the world would be a better place, right? For instance, if I can be more efficient with my personal energy, then perhaps I can put more energy into my purpose in life.

Below are my Top Ten Ways to Save Energy in Life:

  1. Exercise. The increased circulation jump starts the brain. It also improves the mood which improves energy. Nothing like a bad mood to drain your energy.

  2. Eliminate worry. Worry is a preoccupation with the future by the mind. It has nothing to do with the present moment. Live each moment fully and the future will take care of itself. When people worry breathing becomes shallow. Blood vessels constrict. Heart rates increases. Sleep is disturbed. And the positive outlook on life is diminished. All of these have a negative impact on energy.

  3. Eliminate excessive weight. Imagine how you would feel if you had to carry a 50 pound suitcase with you everywhere you went (not rolling a suitcase but carrying a suitcase)? It would be exhausting. But that in effect is what we do when we get overweight. Plus it is an extra strain on the entire cardiovascular system, can lead to diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems. Plus it probably decreases your positive outlook on life which is also a drain.

  4. Eliminate unnecessary tasks. Yesterday, for example, I had to make two trips to the grocery store due to a lack of planning.

  5. Eliminate excessive talk. If you were to observe just one day of silence, you would be amazed at the extra energy available to you. Talking continuously is a drain of energy. Take it from me. My ititials are GAB.

  6. Eliminate excessive sleep. If you were to have someone take your pulse while you slept, you would find that for the first several hours your pulse slows down. But after six, seven or eight hours, it starts to increase. The heart has to start working harder to pump blood through the body when it becomes too slughish. I remember once when I was hospitalized for 20 days, nurses would be coming in to take my pulse through the night. I found that after six hours of sleep, my pulse began to increase. It was time to get up. Sleeping is time to rest the heart, not wear it out.

  7. Eliminate the emotions of politics. I know people who get high blood pressure because of what’s happening in the political arena. Do your duty and vote. Make a contribution. But don’t poison your heart with anger and hatred just because some elected leader has the IQ of a toad frog. If you want to help the world, increase your energy level. Be an inspiration.

  8. Eliminate disorganization from your life. Not being able to find something in a timely way is not only a waste of time, but also of energy. It can also cause stress when you find out that due to disorganization you are late on a credit card bill.

  9. Eliminate willpower. See my post entitled “Endless Source of Power” before you call me a heretic.

  10. Eliminate negative people from your life. You can be feeling inspired and in the zone and a negative person can ruin it in a heartbeat.
