Greatness is possible for every person because there is Power in every person. There are no exceptions. This power exists not only in every person, but in everything. It is consciousness. Through an understanding of how this power of consciousness operates and continuously expands, man transcends the limitations of life and lives in the realm of infinity. He gains the experience of greatness.
This consciousness is the essence of everything in the universe. This consciousness is always creating and expanding. There is no place, no thing, and no body where its presence does not exist.
The genius that leads to greatness lies in the fusion of mind with this consciousness. It allows for a revolution in thinking. This fusion of mind with consciousness is possible by eliminating all obstacles between them. These obstacles are false thinking and false identification. Examples would be thoughts such as “I am poor. I am limited. I am weak.”
As human beings, we have full access to the infinite power of consciousness. By being aware of it, we can be aligned with it. And by being aligned with it we can become as infinite as consciousness itself. Consciousness is the reality. Greatness is its expression. Everything else is but a puppet dance.
Upward and onward is the theme of consciousness. Therefore the purpose of life is growth, an allowance of an ever increasing expression of consciousness. The choice we have is allowance or resistance. Do we move forward or do we remain stuck? Do we say yes to greatness or mediocrity?
This striving for the unlimited is not a manipulation of consciousness. It is an unleashing of consciousness which seeks ways to expand its expression. Therefore, to strive for the unlimited is to be in harmony with this power, this consciousness which is the source of everything. To experience this harmony is to experience bliss. For what is bliss but to feel the unlimited possibilities of spirit.
Life without this progress is an embrace of a lie. It’s giving reality to the falsehood of limitation. It’s a negation of life’s purpose and promise. It’s irresponsibility. It would be akin to Leonardo da Vinci never picking up a paint brush, or Edison simply being content with candles, or the Wright brothers being content with staying on the ground.
None of us are average people. We may act average, we may look average, and we may feel average, but each one of us is an embodiment of consciousness. But the power of consciousness, infinite as it may be, while hidden away like a Genie in a lamp, cannot manifest itself to us until we call upon it.
And what is this manifestation of consciousness? It is genius. That genius, you might say, is your genie. It makes everything that you can dream a possiblity. It takes your mind beyond the realm of mind and your thoughts beyond the realm of thought. Barriers that used to exist become non-existent. Limitations disappear. Creativity flourishes. It’s getting into the zone.
I saw a clip on CBS news about a year ago about an autistic high school student who was on his school’s basketball team as an assistant manager, getting players water, etc. On the last game of the season, with about five minutes to go, he was put in the game as a token of appreciation. He hit something like seven three pointers in that limited time. That was genius. Beyond mind. Beyond possibility. But Pure Reality.
This principle of consciousness, this unlimited divine presence that created everything in the universe, that knows no such concept as limitation, gives us whatever power we need to accomplish whatever it is we want to accomplish.
The more unlimited we feel, the more inspired the possibilities are. Thoughts are no longer stale. They are as fresh as a mountain breeze and as unique and beautiful as any snowflake. The inspired person radiates life and his or her mere presence is beneficial to others, even without words being spoken. Inspired presence alone speaks volumes.
The outward difference between this person and others is that this person, aligned with consciousness and possessed of inspiration, is no longer a victim of circumstance. The person aligned with consciousness does not identify with a life situation. They identify with the infinite.
Throw a great person in jail and they are still great. Gandhi proved that. So did Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela. We are not our circumstances. We are that which transcends circumstance. Ralph Waldo Emerson recognized this characteristic in the Persian poet Hafiz, the only person he wished to emulate:
Hafiz defies you to show him or put him in a condition inopportune or ignoble. Take all you will, and leave him but a corner of Nature, a lane, a den, a cowshed…he promises to win to that scorned spot the light off the moon and stars, the love of man, the smile of beauty, and the homage of art
See my post on Hafiz and Emerson for more perspective on this theme.
This awakening to consciousness is an affirmation of life as wholeness. To step into this new life is to step into eternity, for with it comes the realization that life is infinite.
That which was the essence of every great person who ever lived is in each one of us. Daring to be great, to be infinite, in essence is only daring to take off a mask of false identity. For with its removal you will come to discover that the infinity you seek is in fact that which have always been.
