I received an e-mail this morning that was sounding an alarm bell about the likely war between the United States and Iran, a war that seems to be on the agenda of the current White House administration. No one is to blame for this dark and ominous state of affairs and yet everyone is to blame. Until the collective consciousness of the planet reaches a level of consciousness where it responds with love instead of hatred, selflessness instead of greed, understanding instead of ignorance, wars will, as they have for eons of time, continue. Finger pointing isn’t going to solve anything.
Wars, with all the cruelty and death that they bring, have been part of life on this planet since the beginning of civilization. What is needed is awareness of the divisions in the world that give rise to war. These divisions exist due to ignorance of life’s purpose.
If you need a reminder of what that is, let me just say that it involves understanding, compassion, love, and oneness.
There are beautiful people enjoying life in all corners of the world. People are getting married and raising families, with the same hopes and aspirations that you and I have.
Sometime people have a tendency to think of people in different cultures as less than human, that their lives don’t matter, that war is no big deal. This is a spiritual malady that affects far too many people. Too many hearts have forgotten how to feel.
Are we going to have a repeat of the number of people killed in war that took place in the 20th century? In that 100-year span, the number of people who died violently at the hands of other humans totaled over 100 million. That number will be dwarfed unless civilization becomes attuned to a higher vibration, to higher values, and to the promptings of the heart. There is no other way out. It is a spiritual problem and what is needed is a spiritual solution.
Otherwise, where does it end? Does peace only come after every nation on earth is reduced to a pile of rubble?
As JFK said in June of 1963 at American University, “We all breathe the same air, we all cherish our children’s future, and we are all mortal.” It’s time that we all take responsibility for cultivating love in our hearts.
Taking a cue from Mother Theresa, who refused to participate in an anti-war rally, but said at the same time that she would participate in a peace rally. It’s time to speak out for peace, and for love, and for understanding. As the saying goes, what we resist persists. It’s why I have stopped being a political activist. That used to be my job as the editor of a union newsletter in Washington, DC. And it was a poisoning of my heart.
The collective state of mind that is responsible for all the wars in the world doesn’t need any more negative energy. I remember reading what the Buddha once said in this subject: “Hatred never ends hatred. Only love can end hatred.”
So how do we do this? We do it by connecting to that deepest part of our being. We do it by listening to that voice within. Then and only then is it possible to rise above the world’s negative energy and release something positive. In the darkest hours of life, without that inner connection, despair overwhelms.
With a heart full of light, life remains an opportunity, even in its darkest hours.

I think the problem is that most people are addicted to politics and the news media. People like to get worked up. Finger pointing is a game. To get beyond it requires hanging asround people who don’t share your addiction. Where I used to work, the people who smoked couldn’t quit smoking because they took all of their breaks with their friends outside in the smoking area. How do you get beyond that?
Even Gandhi said he would give up politics after India got its independence from the British. But he couldn’t.
Wield a sword, die by the sword. War begets war. Like attracts like. With many choosing love why is there still so much hate?
I too believe that spiritualizing heart & mind, in fact the spiritual being the source paradigm of all choices is THE solution. The question is how to we spiritualize on a mass level, since it’s a button-pusher, and also very individual.
I understand what you’re saying about activism. Yet with social media, activism software, information becoming decentralized because of the Internet, I see a wider change than before, a wider reach & willingness. The scales are tipping & old structures are crumbling.
Whenever that happens those in old paradigms become even more aggressive. Instead of rising with the tide, they contract & resist, want to perpetuate the only machine they know how to operate.
Pamir,
Thanks for the reminder that the old structures are crumbling. And yes, there are silent unseen forces that are changing the scales.
