When you follow the promptings of inspiration, life steps up to a new rate of energy.
What business is it of mine if what I am inspired to do seems impossible? When the voice of inspiration speaks within me, my responsibility is in the action. The results are not my concern. Does a private in the military argue with a general over a battle plan? His only concern is in following orders, not in whether it seems impossible or not.
I remember a recent trip to Charleston, South Carolina. There is a magnificent bridge just to the north of the city. I remember trying to comprehend how someone could ever think that building such a bridge was possible. But the idea was there first as an inspiration and the possibilities for its attainment obviously were there as well.
But everywhere we look in nature, we are surrounded by the impossible—a tree, a bird, a flower, the stars, the moon. All seem like impossibilities. Just considering the complexity of the DNA of a human being makes us all nothing but impossibilities.
When you follow the promptings of inspiration, you have put yourself in alignment with the infinite. That alone is an undoing of limitations characteristic of the ego-mind. If inspiration is of the infinite, then possibilities are infinite as well.
What are the limitations of the mind? They are programmed beliefs. They are based on the limited thinking of others and self. As Thoreau said, the universe is wider than our perception of it. So are our abilities. And though we might feel safe in the mode of normalcy, it is not what we are here for.
The sailboat isn’t built to remain in the harbor. As Einstein observed, nothing happens until something moves. And if inspiration is a process of being moved, then allow yourself to be moved. Unfurl your sails and see where the wind takes you. This is the meaning of following your bliss.
What is bliss but the highest vibration of your soul’s purpose? It is the soul’s excitement of an even higher form of expression.
Have you ever noticed that the word talent is comprised of the same letters as the word latent? Is the unlocking of the latent the unlocking of the talent? Inspiration unlocks the latent talent, as it peels away layers of mental impressions and false beliefs, allowing new possibilities of expression to emerge. Divine inspiration is latent in us all, and its expression, when awakened, seems like a talent beyond our abilities.
To deny the promptings of the inspiration is resistance to life. The talents that are latent in you are just waiting for the right opportunity. To discover that opportune moment is to live in the present. This is an awareness of inner Presence. This is forgetting about all the limits and failures of the past. That is all irrelevant when the divine speaks in the heart.
This is the meaning of saying yes to life. Living in the present takes on a higher meaning when you are responsive to inner promptings. When you start a new day, its unfoldment is a divine mystery. Love, friendship, and new adventures appear when you are least expecting it.
This is the path out of programmed mediocrity. This is the way out of ruts and boredom. This is the beginning of a divine romance with your life.
And despite these facts, we still, at times, stop to ponder. This hesitancy is a suspension, however temporary, of inner knowing. It is giving more credence to limited thought rather than to infinite thought.
It might seem like sheer madness to follow a voice within. But that is only the perception of a preconditioned mind. The ego mind is invested in keeping life pretty much the same as it always has been. However you have defined your life – normal, sad, happy, successful, failed, mediocre – that is how the ego-mind wants it to stay. That is its identity.
The voice of inspiration, however, is a voice from the unlimited, from the unconditioned. It doesn’t have an agenda except for the expression of infinity. It is not afraid of failure. It doesn’t hold onto the past because it has no past. It is beyond the scope of the past and the present.
The expression of infinity need not be a big act. It could be a smile given to a stranger, a card sent to a friend you haven’t seen in years. It might be just sitting down and writing a few lines of poetry, or stopping to pet a dog.
But one fact remains. Whatever it is you do, by following the promptings of inspiration, you become inspired. You transcend the role of the predictable, clichéd, and bored. You become a spark of the divine.

Wonderful post. Inspiration can truly make a difference.
Every time we see inspiration coming our way, we must not hesitate. We should take that opportunity and use it as a tool to help us achieve our goals.
Thanks, Pamela.
I have come to realize that following these promptings are essential, the most important thing we can do in life. By following these promptings life unfolds in the most wonderful ways — beyond expectation.
Great article. I agree that if we follow these promptings of inspiration, it will certainly not fail us.
Great article! When we take one step of courage the paper tigers just fall back into the shadows because they really were only paper tigers. We need to remember that before we let them scare us. All excuses are just ego’s way of keeping us in low self esteem and bondage. Take care Greg and keep on writing.
