Your Destined Personal Calling

With the beginning of every New Year people are full of resolve to reach dreams and the realization of their personal calling. Most will give up when they do not reach these dreams easily. Thomas Edison said that is why we see so much failure–people giving up.

But vision, coupled with resolve and patience, is a formula for success. If you are being honest with yourself, then failure needn’t ever be an option. If your personal calling is aligned with your consciousness–your source of being–and if it is for the good of all, then how could you possibly fail? The consciousness of the universe is always seeking avenues of expression. That is why the universe came into existence. Become an avenue of its expression and you have the power of the universal consciousness working with you, not against you. Or you can look at it like Emerson did when he said, “If I have lost confidence in myself, I have the universe against me.”

The loss of confidence is a reflection of being disconnected from being, from consciousness. Inspiration is a reflection of being connected to being.

Leonardo da Vinci said, “Obstacles cannot crush me. Every obstacle yields to stern resolve. He who is fixed to a star does not change his mind.” What is stern resolve? Is it a focused energy? Is it persistence? Is your calling fixed to a star?

If you want a metaphor for persistence, take a look at the Grand Canyon. It was formed over a period of millions of years by the Colorado River. Did the river ever say “impossible?”The hardness of rock yielded to the persistence of the water. Without such a formidable obstacle, there would be no such majesty.

And what is a river, anyway? It is a current connected to an eternal and infinite supply of water. That is also what our consciousness is. It is eternal and infinite. It’s supply can never run out. It can never die. The entire universe was created out of consciousness. There is nothing that it cannot achieve. The key to this analogy, however, is that you must stay connected to the source. If the Colorado River were cut off from its source, it would have dried up long before the Grand Canyon was formed.

Consciousness is longing to express itself in you more than you are longing to express it. If what you are longing for is something that offers a higher form of expression of consciousness, then the consciousness of the universe will help you to make that possible.

Consider carefully these words of Meher Baba:

To penetrate into the essence of all being and significance, and to release the fragrance of that inner attainment for the guidance and benefit of others, by expressing in the world of forms – truth, love, purity, and beauty – this is the sole game that has any intrinsic and absolute worth. All other incidents and attainments can, in themselves, have no lasting importance.

Does what you seek as your personal calling fit into this “sole game” as described above? Is what you seek an expression of yourself, of your consciousness, for the guidance and benefit of others? Is it aligned with truth, love, purity, and beauty? If so, your calling is an inspired one and it cannot be denied. Its reality already exists. It is waiting for you to give it form and expression.

That is what Michelangelo said about his statue of David–that it already existed in the marble. He just had to remove the excess marble around it so it could be seen.

The Grand Canyon existed all along. The Colorado River just helped us all to see it. Its beauty was just waiting to be unveiled.

Do you have that resolve? Do you that vision of beauty as the end result of your personal calling–your goal? Just the fact that you are moving towards its attainment, is of and by itself, is an expression of beauty. When you are aligned with the vision that inspired youl–this expression of your consciousness–you have power from an undying source.

Why would you ever stop in pursuit of fulfilling your life’s passion? If you have a patience and persistence like the Colorado River creating the Grand Canyon, your personal calling is a fate already sealed.
