Chronic attitudes become definers for some people. It’s natural for people to get upset or stressed from time to time. The problem arises when the upsets and stresses become a way of life.
In my own life, sometimes I get overconfident in my abilities to control my mind and stay focused and happy. This happens after long periods of time where everything goes perfectly and I’m feeling blissful day after day. Then wham! Something happens that sends the message: “Earth to Greg. Warning. Warning. Wake up.”
I recall what Emerson said in Compensation: “When a man is pushed, tormented, defeated, he has a chance to learn something; he has been put on his wits, on his manhood; he has gained facts; leans his ignorance; is cured of the insanity of conceit; has got moderation and real skill. The wise man throws himself on the side of his assailants. It is more his interest than it is theirs to find his weak point.”
When these events happen that jar me out of my complacency, I need to take them as learning experiences. I am grateful for them and the people who caused them (that is if someone of some people did something to me that was unfair or unjust).
Last night my wife Maggie and I found out that someone was putting a $13,000 lien on our house. I won’t bore you with all the details, but the lien is groundless. After a few phone calls and a few signatures it looks like it is resolved. But it got my heart rate going! That’s putting it mildly.
I wrote an article a couple weeks ago called Poise – A Game We Play with the Universe. Last night, for those who like to keep score, I lost and the universe won. It wasn’t even close. But it’s only one game.
The main thing for me in this game is not to get on a losing streak. That becomes a hard pattern to break. You might want to look at my article on Attractor Energy Patterns. If a person continues long enough in a negative energy pattern, the effects on his or her health would be adverse. Negative emotions such as anger and stress, if experienced persistently enough, can bring on a chronic disease.
Whether it is the suppression of the thymus gland, impairing the body’s defenses, or stress induced hypertension or heart disease, there is a strong correlation between the mind and the body and the balance between health and sickness.
Any long-term behavior eventually becomes an attractor energy pattern. These energy fields are like magnets, attracting more of the same type of energy. A person who calibrates in the low levels of attractor energy patterns, like shame or guilt, will most likely (not always) attract more situations to reinforce shame or guilt. This results in a certain perception of the world reinforcing the belief over and over again.
What I find interesting is that, according to attractor energy field expert Dr. David Hawkins, author of Power vs. Force, “All attitudes, thoughts, and beliefs are also connected with various pathways-called meridians of energy-to all of the body’s organs. Through kinesiologic testing, it can be demonstrated that specific acupuncture points are linked with specific attitudes, and the meridian, in turn, serves as the energy channel to specific muscles and body organs. These specific meridians have traditionally been named according to the organs that they energize-for instance, the heart meridian, gallbladder meridian, and so on.”
I know this first hand from 25 years ago when a doctor, highly skilled in vibrational medicine, was able to cure my liver and kidney disease by directing the needed amount of energy to these organs. It wasn’t acupuncture, but it was a similar principle.
I have been in excellent health ever since. This sustained healthy state is in large part from being optimistic about life and having a spiritual outlook.
Although the mind-body connection as it correlates to disease may seem obvious and self-evident, many people persist in their negative energy states out of pride. If an angry man suffers an injustice, then he makes it a mission to tell the whole world about it. If it takes a whole lifetime, then so be it. He has become the incarnation of a chronic attitude.
If it makes him sick, the more proof he has of the injustice. Some people live their whole life just to prove the unfairness of life. Chronic attitudes become the purpose of life.
Just as negative thoughts can cause disease, positive thoughts can cure them. Spontaneous cures are often the result. Sometimes, a total change of personality can bring on a recovery from seemingly hopeless diseases like alcoholism.
Dr. Hawkins notes in Power vs. Force, “In every studied case of recovery from hopeless and untreatable disease, there has been this major shift in consciousness so that the attractor patterns that resulted in the pathologic process no longer dominated.”
It is our choice. We can hold onto negative emotions and progress towards disease. Or, we can let go of the negativity, and move towards health.
When you are able to love, you are in effect giving yourself an acupuncture treatment. Remember, specific acupuncture points are linked with specific attitudes. Our body can suffer or benefit, depending on the energy of the attitude.
Be aware of your reactions. Watch your emotions. Chronic attitudes have a way of subtly slipping into your consciousness. Try to observe your mind and its thoughts of good and bad. See if you can resist from getting entangled in an emotional tug-of-war.
The next time you are able to do this, give yourself a pat on the back for having won a round against the universe. Be happy!

Expectations and Anger Management…
I was working with couple the other day and the discussion turned to the issue of expectations. As they discussed how anger arose in their lives it appeared that for them the source of their conflict was not communicating expectations….
